book editing

developmental book editing for authors who want to refine their manuscript before querying or self-publishing.

I provide detailed developmental feedback to authors who bring me their imperfect, work-in-progress manuscripts because every story has a potential that deserves to be realised.

Once upon a time, many years ago, someone put pen to paper and invented a whole new world for the very first time.

Reading is one of the true loves of my life. I’m a fiction-lover to my core and a die-hard fan of fantasy, romance, and all things in between. The way writers can build entire worlds from nothing – cultures, customs, landscapes, lore, and characters you root for against all odds – will never cease to amaze me.

Though, in all honesty, what I admire most isn’t the imagination. It’s the courage it takes writers to share these worlds while they’re still unfinished. The courage you have to hand over characters you’re deeply attached to, despite knowing they’re imperfect, because you want your story to become something stronger than it is right now.

That moment of vulnerability (when you’re a little bit terrified that an editor will tear it all apart) is where I come in. As an outside voice to feedback, explore what could be and help you strengthen areas that are wavering – not criticise, try to rewrite, or impose my own vision.

I refuse to be the kind of editor who storms in with a red pen and a list of everything that’s ‘wrong’. Instead, I create a calm, thoughtful, and grounded space where your story can be explored without fear.

I work with writers who are starting at a messy draft (or half draft) knowing it has potential but struggling to see the path forwards. Writers who are certain something is a little off, but can’t quite pinpoint it [talk about the forest and the trees thing].

Whether you’re writing with the intention of self-publishing, you have plans to query agents, or you’re writing for the sheer joy of crafting a story, my goal is to help you do it to the best of your ability – to reassure you that you’re on the right track, give you my honest thoughts, and practical guidance on what to strengthen next (and where to trust your gut).

a safe pause in your story

Every good story has a moment where the stakes fall quiet for a while.

A chapter where the characters retreat from the chaos; tucked away in a library reviewing the facts and catching their breath.  Nothing is over yet, but for a moment, they’re safe enough to see things clearly.

my editing services

I work with unfinished, imperfect, in-progress manuscripts because this is where the real magic happens.

My role is to step back, read as a reader, and then reflect your story back to you with clarity, care, and curiosity – here’s how I do that:

  • For writers who want clarity before they commit to deeper exploration.

My editorial assessment is as considered, big-picture read of your manuscript – a chance to step back and see the work as a whole. I’ll read your book closely and respond as an editor and an invested reader, highlighting what’s working, where the story might be missing something, and what deserves your attention next.

You’ll receive a detailed editorial letter designed to bring perspective, confidence, and direction — without overwhelm.

  • For writers ready to sit with the work and shape it more deeply.

This is a more immersive editorial experience. Alongside a full editorial letter, I’ll provide chapter notes and in-line comments throughout your manuscript – responding to the writing as it unfolds, page by page.

This allows us to look closely at structure, pacing, character, and clarity in context, not just in theory. It’s collaborative, thoughtful, and practical; offering both reassurance and clear guidance as you revise.

  • This whole journey is a personal one. Before I begin reading your manuscript I would love to meet over Zoom to get to know each other a little.

You can talk me through your inspirations, your intentions, the finer details of your manuscript, and any specific concerns you’d like me to keep an eye out for.

I love to chat with my clients after they’ve received their feedback too, so, if you’d like, we can book in a follow-up call once you’ve received your feedback.

This is a space to talk through my notes, untangle anything that feels confusing or overwhelming, and even brainstorm what comes next – if you’d appreciate that kind of input.

These calls are simply there if you’d like a more collaborative, conversational layer of support before you dive back into your manuscript.

If you’ve written a draft and sense it could be stronger — but aren’t sure how to get there — I’d love to help.
